Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from LinkedIn's 'open to board opportunities' feature?

Great question! LinkedIn's feature is a passive signal — you set it and hope NPOs find you amongst thousands of other professionals. ServingSA actively vets both sides, makes curated introductions based on skills and values alignment, and facilitates the entire matching process. Think of it as the difference between posting your CV online versus having a dedicated recruiter who knows both you and the organisations intimately.

Is ServingSA free to use?

Yes. There's no cost — this is a pro bono initiative for both professionals and non-profits.

What kinds of roles are available?

You can join a board, act as a strategic adviser, or serve as an executive-in-residence. All roles are pro bono and flexible.

How do you match people and organisations?

After a quick form and vetting call, we suggest curated matches based on experience, needs and values — no directories or blind pairings.

How much time is expected?

It depends on the role — anything from 1 hour a month for a board seat, to 1–2 days/month as an executive-in-residence.

Do I need to be based in South Africa?

Yes. Most of our participating non-profits are based in South Africa and expect local context, even for remote engagements.
